Drawing Text
For Photoshop
This tutorial is made by me (Soulsgirl) using
photoshop CS2 and photoshop image ready, and assumes you have a basic
knowledge of these programs, the tools and how to use them.
You
can drag this
arrow down the page with you to keep your place in the tut.
Script
provided by Dynamic
Drive.
 Step
1: Start by opening a new document with a white background. I normally
start with a 640 x 480 pixels, you can always crop later. Open the
image of your choice, I am using a snicker doodle piece, and
resize to about 200 pixels wide depending on the original image. Drag
that image to the white background. Add any drop shadow or
other blending effects you would like. Add your copy right
info. At this point your image should look like this.

Step
2: Using your text tool type the text you would like the object to
trace. Select the font and size you would like and position the text
where you want it. Add any blending options you would like to the text.
Right click on the text and rasterize type.

Step
3: At this point you can crop around your image to make it a more
appropriate size. Open the image you would like to do the
“drawing” I am using a snickerdoodle lady
bug. Resize that image to about 20 pixels wide, depending on
the image. Drag that to the previous canvas. Add any blending effects
you would like.

Step
4: Place the image at the start of the first letter. Deselect your name
layer. File/save as “untitled 1” this will be your
first frame of animation.

Step
5: Here is where it can get pretty confusing, so stick with me. You
will want to come up with some sort of labeling system, like
“n1“ or “name1” for each layer.
Duplicate the layer, we are just talking about the name layer from now
on. Name that layer “n1”. On your object layer move
your object to another part on your first letter. Think of how you
would write it and at what point your hand would stop to
start moving in a different direction. . Make sure your first set of
layers is invisible (click on the eyeball). Now, click on your 2nd name
layer...you are going to use your eraser and erase the rest of the word
beyond the object, like so:

Step
6: If you want to add glitter, select your “n1”
layer, go to blending options and select your first glitter
frame. File/ Save as “untitled 2”. Then go back to
blending options and select your second glitter frame, File/ Save as
“untitled 3” do this for each frame of your
glitter.
You are going to keep repeating steps 5
and 6 over and over until you get to the end of your name. You will
want to make sure that you are duplicating your first text layer, so
you have the full word to work with each time. Also, you will want to
drag your duplicated words to the top of your layer box each time. I
will do a series of screen shots now, so you can see my progress on the
word.

Each
movement I am “saving as” with each frame of
glitter. I ended up with 37 “save as” documents.
Onto
animation...
Step 7: Open image ready.
Open
each untitled document in order. Copy each frame and paste onto
untitled 1 in order. Play around with the timing of your frames for the
example I set my timing to .1 delay. Save optimized as and you are
done. I hope this made sense, if not, please feel free to ask questions
and I will do my best to answer. If you use another program, please
feel free to adapt this tutorial to your program.
Finished
product..
